Moab, Utah to Ouray, Colorado

Driving through Arches National Park.

Well, it just keeps getting better and better.  What a day!
We began with a walk to the Moab Diner for breakfast.   This is a cute little place on Main Street.  The food was good and the service was great.  It is so nice to see everyone and continue developing this wonderful comradery! We walked back to the hotel, lined up the cars, and headed out to Arches National Park.

Arches National Park
Arches is wonderful for a caravan.  There were numerous opportunities for parking the cars in a line and photographing them with a magnificent view of red hoodoos in the background.  Again, our row of cars garnered a LOT of attention.  People were grabbing their cameras and taking photos of our eye-catching collection.  I wonder if we inspire them to do the same when they get home?  I know I am getting the itch to get a Smokey and the Bandit TransAm after listening to the movie theme on the Western Scenic Tour soundtrack!  (We put together a CD for the participants with over an hour of driving songs.)  But, that will be another tour.  Hehe.  I guess the 427 convertible Vette will do!  We stopped for many group shots, and we are ALL anxious to see photos.  From the Vette, we were taking photos of all the cars with breathtaking views behind them.  SO MUCH FUN.  SO BEAUTIFUL!

We spent a couple of hours in Arches, a few of us taking short walks to see arches, hoodoos and the almost unworldy landscape speckled with gigantic hoodoos and rock formations.  Some rocks appear to have been placed atop these giant formations and look like they will topple at any moment.  It was amazing.

After lunch, we returned to Moab to gas up and have lunch at a quaint place off of Main Street called Milt’s Stop & Eat.  It is one of those old-fashioned places, where you can walk up to the window to order food and sit outside, or order inside.  It’s a tiny place, and our group filled all but one seat inside.  It was far too windy to eat outside.  We had onion rings, burgers, dogs, malts, etc.  Some in the group reported that this place served the best food so far.  The owner was very accommodating and geniune as was the staff.  This is a definite return to place!

We then hit the road to Ouray, Colorado.  Our final destination.

Arches National Park
We stayed on the back roads for this 160+ mile drive.  Just when you think the scenery can’t get any better, BAM!--we round the corner and are met with views that take your breath away!  Snow-capped mountains!  Autumn oranges, yellows, reds and golds!  Meandering creeks through the wild landscape!  Blue skies!  And of course, the best views of all, that row of our gorgeous cars driving through it all, with drivers and riders grinning from ear to ear, cameras hanging out of the windows, convertible tops down, t-tops off, windows down breathing in that Colorado mountain air...the smells of Autumn tickling our noses, that cool air invigorating our souls.  Sigh...

Wish you were here?  No need to say it...

We stopped at Ridgeway to gas up and we all went to the supermarket to pick up dinner.  Dinner was a BBQ on the grounds of the River’s Edge in Ouray.  We weren’t sure how this dinner idea would pan out, but it was wonderful.  Our group inundated the market, picking up steaks, chicken, chops, potatoes, veggies, desserts, etc.  After eating in restaurants, it was nice to plan a so-called home-called meal, and watch us all come together to make it happen!

Arches National Park
Before dinner, we had a car show in the parking lot.  Dave, the owner of River’s Edge, was our judge.  Thanks SO much to Dave for participating and helping us out!  Norbert and Terry’s blue 2002 Corvette was the big winner of the two trophies:  1)  Long Distance; and 2)  Best of Show.  FYI, in our opinion, every car on this tour is a winner and best of show in their own way!  We had a few more raffle drawings and settled in for social time and a few adult beverages.  There is a fire pit in the River’s Edge courtyard, and it was just pure enjoyment listening to the creek running next to the grounds, enjoying the warmth of the fire, and having good conversation with everyone.

Tomorrow will be the final day, where we will all experience the Million Dollar Highway!
